Our Focus

The GlaxoSmithKline Foundation is dedicated to improving quality of life. With a focus on health and wellness, The GSK Foundation supports and works with registered Canadian charities in the areas of:

  • Healthcare and health promotion
  • Hospice palliative care
  • Science education
  • Local community initiatives

Health Care and Health Promotion

  • The GSK Foundation is committed to building healthy communities that embody the spirit of GSK and its employees. The GSK Foundation supports national and provincial health and social justice charities delivering innovative programs to improve health outcomes and access to care for their members across a broad range of interests and philanthropic pursuits.
  • While The GSK Foundation focuses on the therapeutic areas in which GSK has expertise, including diabetes, respiratory, mental health and cancer, our goal is to improve the quality of care and quality of life for all Canadians.
  • For charitable organizations with a focus on a specific disease state, only those whose work is directly aligned to areas in which GSK has a medicine or product approved for market in Canada will be considered for funding

Hospice Palliative Care

  • The GSK Foundation remains committed to the continued evolution of our employees’ “cause of choice,” the hospice palliative care movement in Canada. We believe that all Canadians have the right to die with dignity, free of pain, surrounded by loved ones in the setting of their choice.
  • In partnership with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA) and a network of concerned stakeholders, The GSK Foundation is working to create a public policy environment that recognizes and supports quality end-of-life care as an integral component of Canada’s health care system.

Science Education

  • The GSK Foundation believes future health innovation depends on creating opportunities for young Canadians to engage in science discovery. Through partners such as ACTUA, a national charity that brings science to life for over 235,000 young Canadians in 450 communities through science workshops, we believe our support for interactive science education programs helps develop a future generation of scientists and scientifi cally-savvy citizens.
  • Over the past 12 years, The GSK Foundation has helped ACTUA engage and inspire more than two million Canadian youth.

Local Community Initiatives

  • The GSK Foundation supports charitable organizations that focus on community health and social service projects in the communities where large numbers of GSK employees live and work, helping to ensure that these communities are healthy, dynamic and caring places.
  • The GSK Foundation supports the many GSK employees who donate their time and funds in order to make a signifi cant diff erence in their communities and encourages participation in community events designed to raise funds and awareness for local organizations such as the annual Hike for Hospice Palliative Care, the CURE Foundation’s National Denim Day and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure among others.
  • For charitable organizations with a focus on a specific disease state, only those whose work is directly aligned to areas in which GSK has a medicine or product approved for market in Canada will be considered for funding
